Excerpts from some of the Responses

First, let me express my fullest praise & offer my warmest congratulations to you for the excellent booklet you have written: UDAIPUR: Since 1553CE- Its founding and a concise photo - fact file’…the fresh reasoning and realistic explanations of the old bardic lore, legend, or myth showed strength of character. What you have explained in good simple language makes sense. It reveals your scientific reasoning based on a hard sense of realities…it takes a man of character and courage to challenge and demolish well established age-old shibboleths… one sees the Maharana Udai Singh in a new light and he assumes a greater place in history…many rare facts have been revealed by you, e.g. renaming of Udaipur & Chittaurgarh by Akbar, first use of gun powder in artillery on Indian soil by the Portuguese in AD 1500, double defense system of Udaipur…your knowledge of religion in tandem with your scientific mind makes good practical sense…I only wish the maps were more clear and bigger…rarely one comes across such a well researched and documented work, with such brevity of words and so full of facts…

Number of books, travelogues, histories, and guide books have been written on the beautiful and historic city of Udaipur over the centuries, but none of these have enthralled me like this recent masterpiece of a magnificent 96 page booklet…showing author’s rare combination of (a) a genuine sense and understanding of the cultural history and heritage of Mewar, (b) a thorough knowledge of the geography and structure of the land terrain which is vital to really grasp the reasons for what took place here, (c) a modern, scientific temperament used in evaluating the facts and the myths of the past, (d) the courage to question distorted versions of usage of words which have set in the course of time, and finally (e) a delightful sense of humor and romance with this land…These assets show up in the text and structure of this book page after page. The author has really dug out the facts about events, places, sites, and structures and put it all together extremely well. The get up and cover design of the book are magnificent, and its conciseness adds to its value…I have not been so thrilled on going through any book for many years now!
